Talk about the effects of noise pollution on our health and well-being – and how woodlands can be the perfect place to escape from the hustle and bustle of our busy lives.
In our story A Thumping Great Rabbit, the noise of Rabbit’s drumming makes it difficult for the woodland creatures to do what they need to do. Fox says that he ‘can’t think’ with all the noise – and this is something that we have all encountered in our noisy, modern world. Tell the children that, in this assembly, you’re going to think about how noise can affect us but also think about places where we may find respite from the bustle of our busy lives. Ask the children to suggest what types of noises they might find distracting. Examples might include a noisy crowd of children in a school corridor, the sound of building work, and traffic and aircraft noise.
