Sporty similes

Use this resource with the Explore the story lesson from the Sport topic.

Introduce or revise the term simile (a figure of speech that compares one thing to another). Ask the children to identify the similes the author uses in the story. Can they remember how to spot a simile (it uses like or as) and how it differs from a metaphor (a figure of speech that describes something in terms of something else, for example she has the heart of a lion)? Can the children make up their own similes?
