Explore the story

The Christmas Wish has lots of potential for exciting literacy work. Here are some ideas for exploring the story, with writing ideas by classteacher Katie Gane.

The Christmas Wish is a magical tale of how wishes can come true. It is a wonderful starting point for literacy activities and the author’s lyrical language makes it a joy to read aloud. Before reading the story, look at the book’s cover with the class (or show them the ‘Christmas Wish covers’ PDF on the whiteboard). Can the children guess what the story is going to be about? What type of story do they think it might be? Look at the blurb on the back page. What does this tell us? Does it make the children want to read the book?
