The outdoor and adventurous activities section of the PE curriculum conjures up images of white-water rafting, mountain climbing and canoeing. But if your resources – and adrenaline levels – are a little more limited, try these fun ideas.
Story hunt
Problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills can all be developed in the great outdoor environment of… your school grounds! All children love a treasure hunt. For this literacy challenge, they collect ‘story cards’ that link to books you have been reading. Each card shows a character’s name, description of a setting or a quote. It requires some preparation time, but the clues can be recycled in other games. On our website you will find a set of story cards for Sports Day on Mount Olympus that you can use as a starting point.
