Jo Bowers, senior lecturer in primary education, finds an ocean of critical thinking themes in Tao and the Kingdom of Pearls.

The sea is a classic setting for fantasy and adventure and Tao and the Kingdom of Pearls offers a wealth of opportunities for critical or philosophical enquiry that will lead on to some exciting literacy lessons. Warm-ups are essential to any philosophical enquiry session and the ‘Real or not real’ warm-up that follows works well for eliciting thoughtful responses to the story.
